I enjoy learning
more about the practice of Narrative ideas. My clinical work consists
mainly of groups and individuals in the justice system, whether
incarcerated or on probation. I am interested in expanding my knowledge
in the areas of domestic violence, substance abuse, and finding joy in
my work. I also offer a poetry page with a prompt for those who use
writing as a way to explore their lives. |

My work is currently focused on
helping people co-construct meaningful and empowering relationships and
community, with special attention to the myriad effects of patriarchy on
women and men. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Licensed
Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California; and I consult,
teach, and supervise using postmodern approaches. The Narrative
community has been vital to my work and sense of well-being in the
world, and I welcome further ongoing connection. |

I am currently the Clinical Director at The Eating
Disorder Center of California, a partial hospitalization program for
people struggling with problems commonly known as anorexia and bulimia.
I have spent the last 10 years working with women in in-patient care. I
am very interested in the issues of power associated with traditional
treatment and how to incorporate social-constructionist ideas into this
type of setting. I am eager to connect with people who work with
'mandated' clients or clients that are understood to be a danger to
themselves or others and discuss how we manage our concern for our
client's safety and our intentions to avoid being an agent of social
control. I also love discussing the practices of facilitating groups
and would love to exchange stories about the unique opportunities and
challenges associated with groupwork. I am an author, a presenter, and a
supervisor and I often host free study/practice groups at my house and
would love to invite local practitioners to join the group! |

I believe Narrative Therapy,
combined with other theories' elucidations (i.e. Attachment Theory,
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Self Psychology) serve clients very
well in their journey to look at themselves and discover solutions to
their problems. I work mostly with children and Narrative Therapy is a
good vehicle to help empower them to help themselves. While working as a
school counselor, I also have a private practice. As a school counselor,
I want to get to know therapists who use Narrative Therapy so I can
refer children to them. I also specialize in Conflict Resolution and do
mediation work. |

I am currently
working towards my PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy and have
co-created Narrative Voices, a group that meets to build community and
stay grounded in narrative practices and theories. (I would love for
anyone to join if they are interested, please email or call me!) I am
passionate about pop culture (mass media/television, etc.),
institutional power, social discourse and social justice. I am also
fascinated with the rich diversity in the moral and spiritual aspects of
our lives, and the
luster of meaning and
purpose that results in (re)connecting with these aspects. I hope to
connect with others who share these passions in hopes of healing our
cultures, both locally and globally. |

I am interested in narrative
practice and its intersection with community work/activism. I have done
a great deal of work in the area of narrative practices with youth
including authoring the book, “Treating Huckleberry Finn. I am
particularly interested in using cultural studies methodologies in
clinical practice, including the use of popular culture texts. Lastly,
since I am a full-time professor of Social Work, I am interested in
post-modern pedagogical practices. |

Narrative became my
preferred way of therapy in 1999. I love that it moves away from
pathologizing and separates the problem from the person while looking
at how past events are shaping current functioning. I find narrative
useful with children, teens, adults and families and feel privileged to
call myself a narrative practitioner. Please call or email for therapy,
consultation or supervision from a narrative framework! |

I am a feminist
therapist with a clinical practice committed to the empowerment of women
and girls. My clinical practice, training services and community work
focus on individuals who experience marginalisation based on gender,
age, race and ethnicity, class, sexual orientation and status as a
psychiatrically labeled person. I am especially interested in linking
with narrative practitioners who are utilizing narrative theory in
community work. |

I’ve been
studying, learning, and practicing narrative ideas since 1994. I have a
therapy practice in Decatur, GA USA, and also work at a hospital-based
agency that provides therapy for people with problems of substance use.
My particular interest in narrative ideas centres around problems of
substances, couples therapy, family therapy, cross-cultural therapy,
people with histories of trauma and abuse, and people struggling with
the effects of anxiety and depression. I enjoy practicing narrative
therapy in ways that connect with a variety of people, problems,
contexts and circumstances. I look forward to linking with others and
finding out how people apply narrative ideas in their respective locales

I provide therapy and supervision in
private practice. narrative therapy has been a rich source of
possibilities for discovering the multi-storied constructions of life,
and the re-authoring experiences. I am honoured and privileged to
continue a journey of almost two decades of learning narrative therapy
from Michael White and other gifted teachers through workshops, reading,
and with the people who consult me. The Narrative Consultation group
here in Boise provides a lively source of narrative ideas. I enjoy
talking with other narrative therapists about these collaborative
approaches. |

My
interests in connecting with other narrative practitioners are
communication and community. I think the possibilities of growing
narrative ideas and practices multiplies as practitioners grounded in
narrative approaches share experiences.
My personal interests in
narrative practices include my practice of narrative family therapy, and
my interests in writing about narrative practices and narrative theory.

Behan, and “Good Answers to Bad Invitations” International Journal of
Narrative Therapy and Community Work, 2005)

I am a Brazilian
marriage and family therapist, living in the United States, and working
with a diverse population of immigrants in the Great Washington Area.
Narrative therapy has allowed me to maintain conversations about the
immigration process, which may include isolation from family and from a
supportive community, difficulty in obtaining services, confusion about
the various cultural norms, language skills, as well as cross-cultural
and identity issues. I have organized a monthly narrative reading group
that has been active since March 2005. |

assuming that I have expert knowledge, I form a partnership for the
purpose of eliciting change. I collaborate rather than direct and the

clients to explore & struggle with their own problems. I go on to

Trained
initially in community organization and then in family therapy, I have
always practiced in the multiple contexts of race, class, gender,
ethnicity and other systems, and from a non-pathologizing,
strengths-based perspective. In the Seattle Narrative Group I was able
to strengthen my critical thinking and narrative practice skills. I now
weave EMDR, narrative practices and Mindfulness Meditation together to
help clients re-author their lives including changes in neurobiology. I
am by nature collaborative and would welcome mutual exchange with other
narrative practitioners near and far. I think it takes a village to work
with any given clinical situation. |

I teach pastoral care and counselling from narrative
perspectives, and I use narrative approaches in my own writing and
clinical work (pastoral counselling and spiritual direction). One of my
doctoral courses is "Liberation Theology and Narrative Therapy". I would
enjoy networking with others who have similar interests or who are
looking for local practitioners. |

As a social
worker and family therapist, specializing in GLBT adolescents and
families, narrative practice has come to constitute the pathway through
which I come to understand their struggles, disappointments, love for
one another, and stories for re-claiming connections. Having recently
crossed over from practitioner and clinical director to full time
faculty member, I long for conversations with like-thinking others about
practice not bound up in the constrictions of pathologizing,
westernizing, and language-limiting possibilities. |

My practice
consists of work with families, couples and individuals with whom I
weave in the Narrative method: objectifying the problems, facilitating
the uncovering of resources, practices, qualities to re-author lives &
relationships.
I have developed & modelled my practice style & method from years of
workshops, international conferences & training & attendance, readings
of Michael White & David Epston primarily. |

As a mental health professional, I have become increasingly
disillusioned about mental health care in the US, as I realize how
chronically mentally ill people are being marginalized. Getting (re-)
acquainted with Narrative Therapy has given me a new sense of hope and
excitement. I hope to link with other therapists to exchange ideas,
share learnings and keep growing. I am moving to Belgium soon, and hope
to join the community there as well. |

In addition to
the social justice commitments in narrative practice, I am interested in
developing communities of practitioners who can articulate their
narrative orientation within the context of an ongoing set of practices
which include other theoretical orientations. The narrative study group
at the Center for Narrative Studies has been meeting for eight years,
engaging in this process of exploration and study. We are committed to
being transparent about describing these linkages to theory and
practice, while supporting each other in
our particular practice contexts. This connects with the narrative
commitment to multi-vocality. |
