Intensive Workshops with Michael White

Dates for 2008

We are pleased to announce the dates for Michael White’s 2008 intensive workshops here at Dulwich Centre in Adelaide, South Australia. We recommend that people enrol early as these training events are always very popular and are usually booked out quite early. We look forward to seeing you soon here at Dulwich Centre!

Dulwich Centre is an internationally renowned narrative therapy training institute, a counselling centre, and an organisation which is regularly engaged in community projects. Michael White, Co-Director of Dulwich Centre, is an originator of narrative therapy, and has published numerous articles and books on this subject. Michael is vitally interested in forms of therapeutic inquiry that enable people to become interested in novel understandings of the events of their lives, curious about aspects of their lives that have been forsaken, fascinated with neglected territories of their identities, and, at times, awed by their own responses to the predicaments of their existence.

Here we have included descriptions and dates of workshops of three different levels of one week intensive workshop that Michael will be offering at the Dulwich Centre during 2007. These workshops take place at the Dulwich Centre in Adelaide, Australia. They are routinely attended by practitioners from around Australia and from a diversity of other countries.

    LEVEL ONE INTENSIVE COURSE
    with Michael White

The Level One intensive training course provides an opportunity for therapists, counsellors, psychologists, organisational consultants and other practitioners to immerse themselves in the thinking and practice of narrative therapy. For those people who have a familiarity with narrative practices, this 5-day intensive will provide an opportunity for a significant extension of what is already known. For those new to this subject, this workshop will provide an ideal starting point for explorations of narrative therapy.

This course will feature a review of the key ideas and practices, including recent developments. Detailed descriptions and illustrations of maps for therapy will be given. These will provide workshop participants with a clear guide to the development of therapeutic conversations that contribute very significantly to rich story development, and to foundations for people to take action on the concerns and predicaments they bring to therapy. Stories of therapeutic conversations, videotapes, transcripts and therapeutic letters will be reviewed, and practitioners will also have the opportunity to develop their own skills in narrative questioning through training exercises.

The Level One course fee is AUD$770. There will be a maximum of 45 participants in this course.

    LEVEL TWO INTENSIVE COURSE
    with Michael White

The Level Two intensive training course is structured around demonstration interviews and skills training exercises. These demonstration interviews will provide an opportunity for the micro-analysis of narrative conversations. This micro-analysis will assist participants to extend their understanding of the ideas and practices of narrative therapy and will serve as an introduction to skills training exercises. These skills training exercises will give participants the opportunity to explore a range of narrative practices pertinent to their own work.

These demonstration interviews and training exercises provide a fertile context for the rapid development of therapeutic skills and for an extended understanding of the application of these skills in a range of therapeutic and community contexts. Furthermore, these interviews and exercises will assist participants to position themselves in their work in ways that are invigorating and in ways that bring inspiration.

The Level Two course fee is AUD $770. There will be a maximum of 45 participants in this course.

Please note. The completion of a Level One Intensive Training Course, or its equivalent, is a pre-requisite for this course. Registration will not be accepted without evidence of eligibility.
