25th
November:
Responding to trauma and enabling contribution:
The possibilities of collective narrative
practice
One day workshop with Cheryl White &
David Denborough
(suitable for those working with individuals, groups
and/or communities)
The Dulwich Centre
Institute of Collective Narrative Practice and Dulwich Centre Foundation
use the latest ideas in narrative practice to support practitioners who are
responding to individuals, families, groups and communities who have
experienced trauma. A particular emphasis of this work involves linking
people around shared experiences and enabling them to make contributions to
each another. Another particular emphasis is the development of easy-to-use
collective methodologies, such as the Tree of Life, the Team of Life,
Collective documentation and many others.
In this one day workshop,
practitioners will be introduced to the principles of collective narrative
practice and offered a range of ideas as to how to respond to individuals,
groups and communities who are going through hard times. This workshop will
be of relevance to therapists/counsellors who are interested in developing
more collective ways of working and also to those who work
in contexts in which one-on-one counselling is either not culturally
appropriate or practically possible.
This workshop will also be appropriate for those who are interested in how our work in
relation to responding to trauma can be linked to questions
of broader social movement and social change.
Cheryl White
is the Director of Dulwich Centre
and the founder of Dulwich Centre Publications
where she works as publisher,
editor, training co-ordinator, conference host and initiator of projects. Cheryl is the co-editor of various books
and
is particularly interested in finding ways to support the work of
practitioners in difficult and challenging contexts. She has recently
launched the Dulwich Centre
Institute of
Collective Narrative Practice
which is
vitally interested in
the interface between narrative therapy and work with wider groups and
communities.
David Denborough
works as a writer/editor for Dulwich Centre Publications and community practitioner
and singer-song writer for the Dulwich Centre Institute of Community
Practice. He is the editor of five books including:
Beyond the
Prison: Gathering dreams of freedom,
Family therapy: exploring the
field's past, present and possible futures, and Trauma: Narrative responses to traumatic experience.
His writing about work with young men in relation to issues of violence has
been published here in Australia and in the USA. David’s songs in response to current
social issues have received airplay throughout Australia and Canada. David
is currently particularly interested in assisting workers in challenging
contexts to develop their own forms of narrative psychosocial support and
community work, see:
