Interested in becoming involved

in the deconstructing addiction league?

For those interested in contributing to the project here are some areas that we would like to further develop.

* A workbook or basic text that will map out a plan of action for those wishing to migrate from an alcohol and/or drug lifestyle. Writings will include: Addiction in relation to Bio-power and social expertise; writings on the need for creating a community based resource for deconstructing addiction informed by narrative practice; the politics of drug use and other articles to set a thoughtful context in relation to matters of 'addiction'.

The next section will include: ways of responding to 'addiction';  the use of the rite of passage metaphor; interviewing persons who have 'been there'; spiritualities of the surface and personal ethics; externalizing conversations; re-membering and elevating one's club of life; personal failure exorcises;  definitional ceremony; alternatives to 'interventions'; returning the gaze and questions of embodiment; community building; self-evaluation; relating to pleasure within the context of self care; migration of identity maps and other therapeutic documents; depression and anxiety teams.

These are some of the tools we would like to work with and adapt to fit our community based endeavor. This is extremely challenging as such a work book will need to be made accessible to persons with no clinical experience.

This is the direction that we would like to take and anyone who wishes to contribute to the writing project can help immediately by giving feedback on the writings, joining the conversations, or sharing your experience in working with such tools.

* Our pilot 'deconstructing addiction' group will be launched in Delray Beach, Florida. Anyone who wishes to get involved in this pilot group is most welcome.

* We would like to establish our own web page. We would welcome anyone's help with this.

* We would like to put together a registry of persons who are available to act as outsider-witnesses for those taking steps to change their relationship with substances.

* After the pilot group has been run we'd love to see other groups form in different cities. Perhaps you'd be interested in starting a group in your area.

Some other possibilities for the league include:

* Creating a resource around moderation and the use of alcohol and other drugs. If this is an area of interest it will have to be approached with a great deal of care.

* We'd also like to set up a support system for narrative therapists who wish to work in the field of addiction treatment

* This project is in its initial stages and we would love to hear from anybody who is interested in contributing to it. We are interested in posting on this web page further articles, letters, documents, insider knowledges, and relevant empowering and healing stories of those who are coming to terms with issues of addiction in their lives and work.

If any of these aspects seem appealing to you please let us know. You can write to the deconstructing addiction league c/o dulwich@senet.com.au
